LearningBuilder Highlights: 2025 in Review

by | Product Features and Releases

As 2025 draws to a close, we’re toasting to constant improvement. Credential management is our area of expertise, and our goal is always to optimize your management process for certification, licensure, and accreditation. We continually strive to enhance LearningBuilder‘s functionality for the benefit of all stakeholders and system participants in the credential ecosystem. And over the last 12 months, we’ve accomplished much toward that goal.

Without further ado, here are the highlights from the last year of LearningBuilder:

Professional Development Accelerators

Professional development is a journey, not a destination. Credentials often represent important steps on that journey. And we’ve done a lot to smooth out the path — even create a few shortcuts along the way:

Portfolios

Credentials are often a big deal to attain. As they should be! However, while the process of demonstrating eligibility should be rigorous, why should the application process be harder than necessary?

In that spirit, we’ve introduced a brand-new way for LearningBuilder to collect and count someone’s professional activities. Now, with the Portfolios feature, education, employment, and other accomplishments can be stored and “pulled in” to meet credential requirements where accepted (by date, domain, or other pre-defined criteria). Here’s why this new, open-ended Learning Plan (or Application) is such a paradigm shift for professional development:

  • This feature helps fast-track advancement in an application process. No one needs to search past applications to find records or re-enter them; Activities can automatically apply to a given application’s requirements. You can even structure automated communications to alert your practitioners when an Activity meets the required criteria.
  • This feature paves the way for successful future credentials. All pre-certification Activities added to their Portfolio will automatically count toward certification requirements when criteria are met — no need to go back and account for them all over again.
  • This feature helps your practitioners attain and maintain multiple credentials. LearningBuilder recognizes when a submitted Activity for one certification or recertification application satisfies the criteria for another, and automatically counts it toward both, which helps minimize both applicant data entry and staff review. By automatically counting Activities toward all relevant applications, the system’s efficiency can help secure practitioner success (and buy-in) for the pursuit of tiered, specialty, or complementary credentials.

Accreditation Accelerators

Accreditation management processes can differ from other credential management programs in a few key ways. However, our goal remains the same: to bring all involved parties into the system and help them do their work.

Over the last year, we’ve put energy into our accreditation management solutions to save energy (and time). Here’s how we’ve made accreditation easier to manage:

Application Pathways for Accreditation

This year, we made it easier to move forward with accreditation applications. How? LearningBuilder’s Application Pathways is an enhanced candidate dashboard that delivers:

  • Clearer descriptions of credentials and application options to help users choose their next move with confidence.
  • More engaging visuals to highlight next steps and calls to action.
  • An improved representation of progress and deadlines to support focus on the most urgent tasks.

Now, with new support for Multi-Instance Roles, organizations can use Application Pathways to view their accredited programs and begin new accreditation applications.

Preview: Staff Roles as Member Roles

Speaking of Roles, our final LearningBuilder release of 2025 will include a major update with serious accreditation implications. Stay tuned for more details to come in our first published release notes of 2026!

Administrative Accelerators

Program staff perform a crucial role in the credential management process, and we like to make their lives easier. Here are some of our main contributions to that effort over the last year:

Improvements to Account Merges

Duplicate accounts happen, but they don’t have to be a huge headache for your staff to handle. That is, if program administrators can merge two user accounts to combine that user’s applications, activities, communications, file uploads, and more into one single, unified record. So this year, we expanded the functionality and use cases of our Merge Accounts feature, removing some of the blockers that, in the past, made account merges more complicated. The Merge Accounts feature now works with all supported browsers and can handle even more use cases, including but not limited to:

  • Members who have been assigned an Activity;
  • Members who have an activity shared on multiple Learning Plan Instances;
  • Members who have created a Learning Object (like a Custom Competency Area), and
  • Members who are a contact on an Activity Definition.

The “Generate PDF” Behavior

We have been working to unify the system around one extensible, maintainable, and designer-friendly form of PDF generation. To that end, the new “Generate PDF” Behavior allows us to render a template and store the result as a PDF file in a user’s file library, so that administrators can generate a certificate using the data that currently exists at that point in time and store it for future reference. This “snapshot” helps track certificates with display details (like signatures) that are likely to change over time.

Infrastructure Security Enhancements

In addition to developing new features and enhancing the functionality of existing features, we also made significant investments in a more secure, scalable, and resilient system infrastructure. That way, you can be confident that we thoroughly safeguard your end-user data.

PCI Compliance

PCI DSS is one of the most robust and secure commercial data security standards. In 2025, an independent security firm launched a multi-week investigation into our new platform: penetration tests, vulnerability scans, policy audits, and staff interviews. At the conclusion of that investigation, they signed our PCI Attestation of Compliance, which confirms that the platform meets the highest industry security standards.

We’re currently in the midst of the migration process to this new architecture, so it’s likely that you’ve been in touch with our team about it. At the same time, we’ve also enhanced real-time monitoring and established comprehensive disaster recovery processes for an even higher level of protection.

New Drata Tool

In addition to recognition of compliance with PCI DSS v4, we also invested in the Drata trust management platform this year. This tool will help us achieve future compliance with other security frameworks in a more streamlined way. Drata also allows our current and future clients to access a “trust center” with the most up-to-date documentation of our security posture for their reference and evaluation.
