Release 13.3 – January 2026
It’s our first LearningBuilder release of 2026! Version 13.3 includes major changes to Staff Role functionality, among other updates and improvements.
Major Features
- Unified Staff and Member Roles: Historically, LearningBuilder has distinguished between Member Roles (which relate a specific Member to a specific Role) and Staff Roles (which relate a specific person to a specific Organization). Namely, Member Roles were managed via the Workflow Engine, while Staff Roles were not.
As of 13.3, we’ve removed this distinction so that “under the hood,” Staff Roles are now fully-realized Member Roles. This change will significantly extend the ways in which Staff Roles can be used and implemented.Among other things, this change supports tiered Staff Permissions. It also supports configuring (or reconfiguring) Workflow Steps to be “completed by” a specific Staff Role. Staff actions can now also be tracked via the Workflow Log.
Suffice to say, this is a major step forward for the platform that can potentially support many ways of interacting with the system. Stay tuned for further exploration of this feature and its benefits in the weeks to come. If your use of LearningBuilder includes Staff relationships, let your Support Lead know so that we can review your configuration and help you take full advantage of this major development.
- Organizations can manage Staff accounts: Due to this change in Roles and Role-based Permissions, your Organizations can now manage their own Staff accounts. Before this release, Staff relationships could only be established via an Administrator account, and it likely fell to your staff to handle. Now, Organizations can add and remove Staff members and use the Edit Role Workflow to provide custom metadata for each Staff member. This functionality requires configuration of the Grant/Edit Role Workflows.
- New Scriban Templates: We’ve begun to roll out an experimental new templating feature (Scriban) in the Email Template area. While not yet ready for global production use, it is available for early adopters to experiment with in the Email Template area. We will roll this out more globally in upcoming releases, giving client admins the ability to edit templates they cannot currently edit.
Enhanced Data Import:
- Better Performance: In some cases, saving an Excel file as a CSV file means the file can contain rows with commas delimiting the field, but no data between the columns. There can sometimes be tens or even hundreds of thousands of these rows in a given file, which can clog up the Enhanced Data Import Queue and cause performance issues. We have now resolved this by introducing a hard limit to the number of accepted rows, which will block “junk” rows without affecting other values in the file.
APIs and Integrations
- An API to retrieve Workflow Instance Attribute Values: We created an API for the retrieval of specific Workflow Attribute values. This API could be useful to anyone building their own integrations to use LearningBuilder data.
