Sure to be a star of our 2025 LearningBuilder “highlight reel,” we’ve developed a new feature that makes LearningBuilder application processes (and processing) even more efficient: The Criteria-Added Activities Portfolio, available as part of our upcoming LearningBuilder release 13.0.
Activities: The Heart of Certification Management
At any point in time, your program may include people who are:
- Planning to pursue a credential;
- Maintaining their credentials;
- “Leveling up” their existing credentials; or
- Pursuing additional credentials.
No matter where they are in the credential lifecycle, they will likely need to document:
- Relevant information (like education or work history) provided as a step in the application process; and
- Unique, completed endeavors, like specific continuing education courses.
In the LearningBuilder language, we refer to these documented achievements as “Activities.”
As someone’s professional journey unfolds, Activities accumulate. Time passes. Circumstances change. It might be challenging for someone to constantly have to refer back to past accomplishments and evaluate their potential relevance as they complete new applications.
If someone only had to add an Activity to the system once, reflecting on the details of their professional journey would suddenly be a lot less daunting. If your staff only had to review an Activity once, it could be easier to expand credential programs and eligibility pathways.
The New Portfolio: One and Done? Done and Done!
Now, we can configure an open-ended Learning Plan (our term for an application) as a comprehensive professional portfolio. This Learning Plan is a single, comprehensive summary of all of a practitioner’s achievements.
We’ll work with you to define criteria using LearningBuilder’s low-code Visual Rules Engine. Then, as someone adds their Activities to the system, their current and future applications will pull in the ones that match that predefined criteria (like date ranges, for example) to counts toward the application’s requirements.
The inverse is also possible: As practitioners document their achievements on specific applications, their professional portfolio can aggregate all of those Activities into a viewable “virtual transcript.” Or, we can mix-and-match the use cases to create a hybrid model that works for your unique business rules and program needs.
Remove Obstacles to Professional Advancement
Throughout their careers, your practitioners can update their professional portfolio. When they change jobs, they can add work experience. When they complete continuing education (CE) credits, they can enter them. They might add supervised practice hours, published papers, conference presentations — anything your program tracks. Once the Activities are added, those that meet specific criteria will automatically apply to all relevant Applications going forward.
As people move into their next “thing,” their professional portfolio can help them accelerate the process. They won’t have to sift through past applications to find their records or risk re-entering them incorrectly. Neither will they need to keep track of which Activities apply to a given application’s requirements. You can even structure automated communications to alert them when application criteria have been met. That way, they don’t even have to log back into the system to know which Activities count toward what applications.
Set Your People Up for Future Credentials
The road to eligibility isn’t the same for everyone. We want aspiring certificants to feel empowered to complete training and other Activities without having to start a certification process. When they do reach an inflection point and decide to pursue certification, we want what they’ve done to automatically count where criteria are met, so that they don’t feel burdened by having to go back and account for it all again.
With Portfolios, individuals can add Activities to their professional portfolio as they go. When they reach an inflection point and decide they want to pursue a credential, any Activities in their portfolio that match the relevant criteria will automatically count towards their application requirements.
