Counted When it Counts: Multiple Certifications Made Easy

by | Product Features and Releases

Your people work hard to get certified and stay certified, so we designed LearningBuilder to make the application and recertification process as smooth and straightforward as possible. Shouldn’t the same apply when they want to add an “s” to their certification? Whether your practitioners want to up-level their existing certification or add additional or specialty certifications, we’ve made it easier for them to achieve their goals — and for you to expand your certification offerings. How? With LearningBuilder’s new feature! We’ve already covered how it powers practitioner portfolios, but it also offers another significant potential benefit to your program: it reduces the effort required to manage multiple certifications.

Multiple Certifications…Made Easier?

As we know, additional certifications don’t just enhance your practitioners’ career prospects. They also help cultivate more multifaceted practitioners across industries. At the same time, it can be a highly involved process to attain and maintain those certifications, requiring documentation of education, work experience, supervised practice hours, CE, and more, sometimes even on different certification cycles.

Now, multiple certifications no longer necessitate multiplied effort! Activities added to LearningBuilder will automatically count towards every application where that Activity matches the requirement criteria. Your practitioners won’t need to exhaustively track their accomplishments over time or start every application from scratch. As your practitioners advance or add certifications, LearningBuilder ensures they only have to enter qualifying activities once, thereby reducing friction in the application process. This saves your staff time as well: They only need to audit or review an Activity once, no matter how many applications it applies to.

Under the Hood: The “Criteria” You Can Configure

As a quick refresher, “Activities” in LearningBuilder include:

  • Relevant information (like education or work history) that a user provides as a step in the application process; and
  • Unique, completed endeavors, like specific continuing education courses.

Within LearningBuilder, we configure the criteria that Activities must meet at the Task Group level, which means the collection of Activities that fulfill a specific Application requirement.

Using our low-code configuration tools, you can specify:

  • The types of Activities that qualify.
  • The date range in which the practitioner must complete those Activities.
  • The required completion state or states of the Activities.

A further note on completion state criteria: “Completed Successfully” tends to be the common selection. If two applications that share Activities are both in progress at the same time, and you want an Activity added to one application to show up on the other (even if that Activity hasn’t been reviewed yet), you can select both “Owner Complete” and “Completed Successfully” to set that criteria.

Certifications, Plural? No Problem!

As Practitioners complete Activities, how are they added to applications? You have options. We can configure an open-ended application to act as a central repository or Portfolio to which your practitioners can add all their Activities and achievements: work experience, education, courses, supervised practice hours, etc. Activities that meet your preconfigured requirements will automatically count towards relevant initial or recertification applications.

Alternatively, practitioners can add Activities directly to a credential application. Activities that meet the predefined criteria are then automatically “pulled in” to count toward another credential’s application requirements.

In both cases, your practitioners won’t have to track which Activities apply to which credentials; the system will do that on their behalf. As they add Activities to the system, they’ll be counted when (and where) it counts.

By seriously simplifying both additional certification and recertification processes, this feature also helps encourage people to augment and expand their credentials. Busy practitioners distracted by work and life might not always know that their accomplishments apply to multiple credentials. Now, LearningBuilder removes the guesswork: Activities added elsewhere in the system can automatically initialize a new application. You can even configure a pop-up notification alerting applicants when previously-submitted activities have initialized an application for them.
