Arlington, VA: On September 26, Christopher Butcher participated with faculty, alumni, and industry leaders in an advisory board for the Management Information Sciences and Computer Information Sciences programs for Marietta College, in Ohio.

The advisory board is responsible for developing a curriculum for Marietta students to prepare them for post-academic work. The department has engaged in extensive research to identify needs in the professional world that can shape the academic program. Says Butcher,

“I’m delighted to share my expertise with an organization like Marietta. Many colleges can produce bright people, but it takes a very special program like the one Marietta is developing to produce entry-level graduates who can hit the ground running. As a graduate of a liberal arts college, I know how difficult it can be to apply the theoretical work you do academically to the business world. At Heuristics, we like graduates from liberal arts programs, but the investment to bring them to a full understanding of how to get the job done is considerable.”

The advisory group is led by Bob Van Camp, Associate Professor of Computer Science, and Mark Miller, Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. It is comprised of Marietta graduates in the field, faculty, and industry leaders. Says, Van Camp:

“We are considering options on how to improve our current degrees. We encourage the input of experts in industry like Christopher Butcher to help us with this process. Christopher shares our belief that students need strong conceptual knowledge as well as practical experience. As the layers of abstraction increase, one challenge is to find what kind of domain knowledge students need to be successful. Christopher has extensive knowledge and experience in this regard and greatly contributed to our discussion.”

ARLINGTON, Va., April 27, 2007 – Heuristic Solutions, a provider of smart software applications for associations and corporations, announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) to provide “OmniConference 2.0”, an integrated suite of applications to manage the association’s annual conference and other events.

The AILA is a national association of over 10,000 attorneys and law professors who practice and teach immigration law. Entering a period of strong growth, AILA wanted to more fully automate the way it manages its annual conferences and call for presentation process. Using an unwieldy combination of Word documents and spreadsheets, AILA’s staff spent hours manually recording, tracking, and reporting meeting status and speaker confirmations. After surveying the off-the-shelf marketplace without success, AILA turned to Heuristic Solutions and OmniConference 2.0.

Michelle Gergerian, Director of Education, said, “They are excellent to work with. I found them very responsive and good communicators – able to present complex, technical details in English that we can act on.” Built on a highly configurable and modular platform, OmniConference 2.0 provides AILA the flexibility to automate its conference tasks and workflow processes without compromising required functionality or paying for an expensive custom built system. “We are already gaining tremendous benefits from OmniConference’s configurable architecture and broad functionality,” Gergerian said. The first phase of the project, “Call for Presentations”, is scheduled for launch in July 2007 with Phase 2 scheduled for the end of this year.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed working with AILA and its staff. They are knowledgeable about their business, committed to deploying a conference system that works well and are doing everything we could ask in a partner to achieve success.” Said Christopher Butcher, principle and co-founder of the Heuristic Solutions. “AILA represents a large part of the association marketplace that needs cost effective, technologically sound solutions but can’t find them with OTS solutions.”
